Gambling Disorder Case Presentation Webinar

This session is for anyone new to treating Gambling Disorder or for anyone interested in hearing cases of clinical treatment. The session will provide education on a problem gambling-related topic that matches the case to be discussed.

This session is for anyone new to treating Gambling Disorder or for anyone interested in hearing cases of clinical treatment. The session will provide education on a problem gambling-related topic that matches the case to be discussed. A certified gambling counselor, and graduate of the Ohio Gambling Treatment Fellowship Program, will present a case and discuss screening tools, assessment and treatment strategies, similarities and differences between gambling and substance addictions and walk the audience through what a clinical encounter looks like. The session will conclude with an engaging discussion.

1.50 CEUs are available for this webinar. Problem Gambling Network of Ohio is an approved continuing education provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board, and the International Gambling Counselor Certification Board.

PAX Tools for Human Services Training (part 1)

Pax Tools For Human Services Training is intended for adults who interact with young people professionally in community settings. Ideal for behavioral health, after-school, out of school time, early childhood, or other youth-serving professions. Training features a focus on a trauma-informed approach and eleven evidence-based strategies that reduce problematic behavior, increase on-task time, improve relationships, and increase staff satisfaction.

Professionals who attend this training will receive the strategies and materials they need to effectively use PAX Tools in their work with young people, and resources to share with parents and caregivers of the children they serve.

This training consists of 8 content hours where participants learn how to implement eleven evidence-based strategies in their professional practice during normal interactions with young people. Participants in training leave with all the skills and materials they need to start implementing PAX Tools strategies right away!

Attendees might serve in one of the following positions:

  • Case Manager
  • Child Life Specialist
  • Child Welfare Worker
  • Juvenile Justice Professional
  • Peer Support Specialist
  • Social Worker
  • Wraparound Facilitator
  • Prevention Specialists

Trainings will take place on October 18, 2022 from 8 am – 12:30 pm and October 19, 2022 from 8 am – 12:30 pm.  You must attend both trainings to receive your certificate. (You only need to complete one registration form to register for both days).

Stage III: Understanding the Roles of Family and Finance in Problem Gambling is a training that encompasses education on both family and finances.

The role of Family & Finances is a training that encompasses education on both family and finances. Clinicians seeking to provide treatment for gambling disorders may find themselves addressing areas unique to problem gambling, such as financial management or the impact family members can have on recovery. This advanced clinical training provides clinicians with the education and tools they need to competently address family and/or finances in treatment planning.

This training will be held on Thursday, October 20th and Friday, October 21st from 9:00am -12:15pm

6.0 CEUs are available for this training which can be used toward obtaining the GAMB Endorsement through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board or can prove scope of competency through the Ohio Social Worker, Counselor, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board. Prevention Stage II: Strategies in Preventing Problem Gambling

This Stage II is intended for prevention professionals and builds upon the basic concepts from Stage I and provides participants the opportunity to apply community-based prevention skills to problem gambling issues in their communities.

Prevention Stage II: Strategies in Preventing Gambling Disorder builds upon the basic concepts from Stage I: Gambling, Problem Gambling, and Ohio’s Service System and provides participants the opportunity to apply community-based prevention skills to problem gambling issues in their communities. The training will provide a cursory overview of the history of prevention and problem gambling prevention in Ohio including funding sources, strategies, and collaboration with partners in operation and regulation.

Participants will examine local data to establish a problem of practice for problem gambling prevention and determine what resources currently exist in their communities to address the problem. Participants will engage in independent work, breakout rooms, and large group discussions to examine organizational policies, community policies, and school policies and create guidance to advocate for change.

Who Should Attend:
Professionals in the fields of prevention and education; county boards; and anyone wanting to learn more about problem gambling prevention.

Cost: $50

Continuing Education:
12.0 CEUs are available for this training. Problem Gambling Network of Ohio is an approved continuing education provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board, and the International Gambling Counselor Certification Board.

Schedule:

Lead Trainer: Claire Spada, OCPS, ICPS
Claire is the Workforce Development Program Manager for PGNO and an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist. She has worked in the prevention field for over 15 years which has included a focus on substance use and problem gambling prevention across the lifespan. In a previous role, Claire coordinated gambling services for a community agency and was effective in developing screening procedures, providing awareness and education to counselors and clients, integrating problem gambling into drug and alcohol prevention, as well as ensuring that her agency was well prepared to address gambling disorder.

Participants will engage in independent work, breakout rooms, and large group discussions to examine organizational policies, community policies, and school policies and create guidance to advocate for change.

A certified gambling counselor, and graduate of the Ohio Gambling Treatment Fellowship Program, will present a case and discuss screening tools, assessment and treatment strategies, similarities and differences between gambling and substance addictions and walk the audience through what a clinical encounter looks like. The session will conclude with an engaging discussion.

Training features a focus on a trauma-informed approach and eleven evidence-based strategies that reduce problematic behavior, increase on-task time, improve relationships, and increase staff satisfaction.

Professionals who attend this training will receive the strategies and materials they need to effectively use PAX Tools in their work with young people, and resources to share with parents and caregivers of the children they serve.

This training consists of 8 content hours where participants learn how to implement eleven evidence-based strategies in their professional practice during normal interactions with young people. Participants in training leave with all the skills and materials they need to start implementing PAX Tools strategies right away!

Ethics for Ohio’s Prevention Professionals

The Gambling Ethics for Prevention Professionals session will provide those licensed through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Chemical Professionals Board with 3.0 CEUs in ethics.
