Prevention Action Alliance, in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Ohio University’s Voinovich school, is hosting the fifth annual Ohio Youth-Led Prevention Network Adult Allies Summit with the theme of Creating Opportunities for Youth to Lead: Evidence-Based Strategies for Addressing Complex Social Issues.

The summit will discuss the important role you play as an adult ally and will share information on exciting developments in youth-led prevention in Ohio. You will hear from experts on topics such as using evidence-based strategies to create change at the micro and macro level, prevention for LGBTQ students, and how to change social norms.

The goal of youth-led prevention (YLP) in Ohio is for young people to engage in a data-driven strategic planning process to identify and implement evidence-based prevention strategies to create community change. Youth-led programs are a community-based process (Hogan, Gabrielsen, Luna & Grothaus, 2003) in which young people determine a problem of practice, identify the root causes of the problem, and select and implement evidence-based strategies to address those root causes.

Adult Allies are critical to the success of YLP because they assist young people in developing the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to create community-level change. The goal of the Adult Allies Summit is to provide an opportunity for adults to gain skills in empowering youth to work collectively to create change and improve the mental and behavioral health of Ohio’s young people.
