Problem Gambling Network of Ohio.

Building a network of support through collaboration, education and research.

At Before You Bet, our mission is to help Ohio communities reduce problem gambling and build awareness of available prevention and treatment resources. As an organization, one of our biggest strengths is that we aren’t in it alone. We’re a part of a true coalition – and, in this blog post, we’d like to highlight one of our partners that helps make a big difference in supporting our mission of promoting responsible gambling practices. That partner is the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio (PGNO).

PGNO is an affiliate of the National Council on Problem Gambling. Their responsibility is to advocate for those who are negatively impacted by gambling. They also ensure that any gambling or gambling expansion includes consumer protections to mitigate harm. PGNO is supported by grant funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services via the Problem Gambling Casino Fund tax dollars.

PGNO is made up of committees that enhance its organizational infrastructure and help meet the needs of those impacted by problem gambling. Committees include:

  • Policy – whose goal is to develop common sense policy solutions that ensure gambling regulations, laws and organizational policies take into consideration their impact on issues related to problem gambling.
  • Service Network Development – whose goal is to promote high quality professional services that enhance the problem gambling service network in Ohio.
  • Community Empowerment – whose goal is to serve as a catalyst for community engagement in addressing the issue of problem gambling.

Across all of the committees of PGNO, the aim is to provide more opportunities to recruit and engage members and community partners in the efforts to prevent problem gambling. The expertise and efforts of PGNO have been valuable resources for all of us at Before You Bet – and we look forward to continued success in our communities.
