Resources to Help People Prioritize Recovery This September

If you or someone you know has ever struggled with a mental health or substance use disorder, you might know how complex the journey toward recovery can be.

Whether it is a problem with gambling, a substance use disorder, or something else, Before You Bet wants to promote healthy recovery for all Ohioans during September, also known as National Recovery Month. And with new forms of gambling, like sports betting and e-bingo, potentially becoming legal in Ohio soon, it’s essential to know where to get help for those who might be struggling.

Below is a list of free mental health resources and addiction services available to all Ohioans:

Ohio CareLine: Ohio CareLine is a toll-free emotional support call service with behavioral health professionals on the line 24/7. They offer confidential support in times of need when individuals may be struggling to cope with various challenges in their lives. When callers need additional services, they will be connected to local providers.

FindTreatment.gov: The Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides free and confidential location services for people looking for treatment or mental health providers in their area.

Hey, I’m Here: Hey, I’m Here is a youth-led initiative engaged in changing the conversation around the mental health of young Ohioans. The advocacy group provides free help and resources, as well as a safe digital space to share personal stories and get connected.

Take Charge Ohio: Take Charge Ohio is an initiative to help Ohioans use medication safely and responsibly to minimize the risk of drug misuse, dependency, and addiction. Through devices like the opioid risk quiz and resources for patients, families, and healthcare professionals, all Ohioans can access tools and help if they need it.

Before You Bet: For those who might be struggling with a problem with gambling, BeforeYouBet.org can help. Through education resources, a quiz that tests at-risk levels for problem gambling, and more, people struggling with gambling or their loved ones can access the support they need. Ohioans can access the free, 24/7 helpline today by calling 1-800-589-9966 or by texting 4HOPE to 741741.
